The Vegan 100

I'm not really a fan of these meme type things but I'd seen the Omni 100 around (and eaten a good deal of it in previous lives) and wondered about a Vegan version. Also Mr Stripey Cat has just this hour departed back to Blighty, the rain is pissing down and I'm comforting myself with Kim Chee soup, the sort of breakfast that can really only be enjoyed while very sad, miserable and alone.

This originated at Bittersweet and was brought to my attention by Destiny's Kitchen.

The Rules are:

1) Copy this list into your own blog, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.

(23) I don't believe you can have a vegan ceviche but on the basis I've had a lemon juice dressed thin sliced salad I've said yes to this. (26) Not exactly, but I've taken it in vodka. (27) Once I found a coconut milk version at a Chinese supermarket. It was delicious but I've never found it again. (41, 100) My initial reaction is yuck! but I have licked the cake bowl before now. (46, 61, 77) Yer' what?!?. (53) Not tofurky but local equivalents. (90) No vegan version available. (94) I prefer a nice old fashioned red, with pips.

There doesn't appear to be anything here I wouldn't try.

Smores are toasted marshmallows in a biscuit sandwich.

There's an awful lot of the rest of the list that I have no idea at all what they are, so I don't think I'll be doing this one myself.

And kimchi for breakfast?!

I'm so impressed!

Niles, thanks for that. I wonder what the Girl Guides version would be for the UK (not that I'm expecting you to know!!!)

Yes, kimchi for breakfast, one of the many indulgences available to the lonely vegan who lives 5 miles from civilisation and isn't expecting to see another human being for a week.

But I don't do it when I have guests.

Thanks Destiny, did you see the list at
http://feedingmaybelle.blogspot.com/2008/08/vegetarian-100.html

which has some interesting stuff on it and appears to be mostly vegan.

Could not resist since I'd wondered about a vegan version when I'd posted the other one last week.

I posted a smiling onion with it, to help comfort you ... and this weather certainly does not help.

I had vegan ceviche in a vegetarian restaurant in Santiago! http://www.flickr.com/photos/beacon/2098081151/

It was basically mushroom ceviche as far as I can remember....

Hi AVCB,

Your picture does look good. I thought I was being a bit grumpy about the ceviche item and went googling just after making the post. Can't remember where but that turned up a rather nice looking recipe for a 'ceviche' using palm hearts which would certainly be worth trying.

But I still maintain that ceviche is just too strongly associated with fish for a vegan list and since I've just this minute discovered Kinilaw on the Apple Pie, Patis & Pate blog I think that would be a better word for it.

Hey, thanks for the mention on my "Vegetarian" list. It looks like you did pretty good on the Vegan list.
